VERDANT is a triptych series with life sized botanical specimens arranged to form a green wall. The images are a result of visits to wooded river valleys in Wales and South West England where species were photographed in-situ using an ‘outdoor studio’ and flash photography to achieve consistent lighting. These individual specimens were then meticulously cut out and collaged to create a large composition that, whilst retaining a natural feel, results in a considered, curated image.

From left to right: ROWAN — takes its name from the bright orange clusters of rowan tree berries in the composition. Other species include: pennywort, buckler fern, ground ivy, wild clematis, wayfairer tree, tutsan and glittering wood moss. TUTSAN — takes its name from the predominant berry in the composition — the Tutsan (top right). Other species include: royal fern, buckler fern, beech fern, maiden hair, ground ivy, wild strawberry, herb robert, maidenhair spleenwort, star Moss and pennywort. WILD ARUM — takes its name from the three fruiting spikes of the Arum Lilly also known as ‘lords and ladies’ or ‘cuckoo pint’ which emerge in late summer in shaded woodlands. Other species include: hard fern, maidenhair spleenwort, bramble, wild strawberry, wood sorrel and black bryony. The images are available as prints from The Tree Art Gallery.
